A well thought-out studio in central Gex, for an easy soft landing

At the foot of the castle is a studio of around 20 sqm fully renovated in 2022, located at 141 rue du Commerce, in the heart of Gex’s historic centre — a stone’s throw from the castle, the main square, the shops and the cinema. Designed for a single occupant or a couple, it goes for a compact, neat, no-frills layout: everything you need to live comfortably, nothing superfluous.

The 2022 renovation is well done: light oak parquet, white walls, modern recessed electric heating, double glazing, wall-mounted TV, equipped kitchenette, an efficient water corner with a cylindrical column shower and a wall-hung WC. The openings on the courtyard side reveal exposed old stonework, a reminder of the building’s older origin — the contrast between modern interior and historic shell is what gives this studio its identity.

Who this studio is really made for

This isn’t a classic tourist rental. It’s a relocation studio — the main clientele are singles or couples moving to the area for a new job in Switzerland (CERN, banks, international organisations, healthcare, pharma), an internship or a temporary contract. Travellers usually stay several weeks to several months.

Well suited to:

  • A single person settling in for a first role on the Swiss side
  • A couple arriving in the area looking for a base while finding their rental or purchase

Access: a practical detail

The studio has two entrances:

  1. Main access via the pedestrian alley at the back of the building — a small, quiet alley, no busy street, no need to cross paths with the residents of the upper floors
  2. Secondary access via the building’s stairwell, which comes out directly onto rue du Commerce (the shopping side)

Useful for grabbing groceries without going around, slipping in discreetly late in the evening, or handling luggage and deliveries.

Central Gex: everything within walking distance

The address at 141 rue du Commerce is in the heart of Gex’s historic centre. A few minutes on foot:

  • Saturday morning market — the big weekly Gex gathering
  • Vival mini-market (open 7 days a week) for everyday groceries
  • Butcher, wine merchant, coffee specialist, tobacconist, a few small town-centre shops
  • Le Patio arthouse cinema
  • Restaurants: kebab, Italian, traditional French
  • Beer bar
  • Post office, banks, tourist office
  • Gex castle and historic centre

For public transport:

  • Buses 60 and 61 to Geneva Cornavin station and Geneva-Cointrin airport (one change)
  • Line 818 to Divonne-les-Bains, Nyon and Coppet, morning and evening — useful for cross-border commuters
  • Coaches to Bellegarde with connection to the TGV station (Paris, Lyon, Marseille, etc.)

Gex is the main town of the Pays de Gex: all administrations are on site, useful for a settling-in period or a long mission.

Parking

Jura underground car park about 5 minutes’ walk away — first 2 hours free, then very reasonable rates by the day or week.

For Swiss-relocation guests, the proximity of the bus stops (line 60/61 to Geneva Cornavin and the airport, coaches to Bellegarde TGV) also makes car-free mobility entirely possible depending on the profile.

  • CERN (Meyrin): 15 minutes
  • Geneva-Cointrin airport: 25-30 minutes
  • Ferney / Thoiry border: 12-15 minutes
  • Central Geneva: 25-30 minutes
  • Divonne-les-Bains (spa, casino, golf): 10-15 minutes
  • Faucille pass (alpine / cross-country skiing): 15-20 minutes

  • Long stay (> 28 nights): degressive rate applied automatically — contact us for a monthly quote, a frequent setup for relocations
  • Tourist tax: collected automatically on Airbnb and Booking (paid to the CCPG)
